Whitefish Bay Farm Gallery’s Season of Color

Whitefish Bay Farm Gallery opens its 32nd season at 12 pm on May 18. The gallery, located in a restored granary barn, exhibits a variety of fiber art, pottery, and locally produced naturally colored and naturally dyed yarn.

The farm flock of white and naturally colored Corriedale sheep gives quality, soft wool that is spun into yarn. The white and light/medium gray yarns are naturally dyed in a rainbow of colors. A recent week of natural dyeing culminated in a wide range of colorful yarns. The resulting yarns are available in the gallery, and the fiber artists who display at the Gallery use many of the dyed yarns and fibers.

The public is invited to observe the natural dyeing process on May 18 and 19, 1 – 3 pm. On Saturday, two dye pots will be working – one with marigold flowers to give yellow yarns and one with cochineal extract to give reds and pinks. On Sunday, the yellow yarns and the red/pink yarns will be dipped into the indigo pot to give greens and purples. The dyeing will take place outside and is weather dependent.

Whitefish Bay Farm Gallery, open 12 – 5 pm daily (closed Tuesday), is located one and a half miles east of Highway 57 on County WD. For more information visit http://www.whitefishbayfarm.com or call 920.743.1560.
