Whitefish Dunes Offers Volunteer and Painting Activities

The public is welcome to join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes to tackle Dame’s Rocket, Garlic Mustard and Hounds Tongue to preserve rare plants on May 28 at 9:30 am and/or 1:30 pm. Wildlife Technician Mike Locatelli will lead the workday; pre-registration is not required but appreciated. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Nature Center, plan for one or two hours, and dress for the weather (long pants preferred). Water, snacks, and a pair of gloves will be provided, as well as a complimentary daily vehicle sticker.

On Saturday, May 29 at 2 pm, the public is welcome to join a naturalist for a short hike, highlighting spring flowers.

The public is also welcome to join artist Elaine Cregan for an afternoon of water coloring. Offered on Friday, June 18, 1 – 3 pm, participants, who are suggested to bring a nature photo or object, will learn basic techniques while enjoying the natural beauty of Whitefish Dunes. Pre-registration is suggested by June 16, but walk-ins are welcome. The class is $10 for materials and will meet at the Shelter Building.
