Wild Tomato, Alexander’s Earn Top Seeds in Hilander Cup Chase

The Wild Tomato and Alexander’s rolled into the Hilander Cup tournament with big wins in the final week of regular season broomball play Feb. 12.

Those teams are the favorites, though strange things happen cup tournament time (snow neutralizing top seeds, teams not showing up, ice melting away, people being old.)

An 8-goal performance from Spencer Johnson nearly earned him the regular season scoring title, but he finished just two goals behind Brian Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald finished with 18, Mike Jaeckel was second with 17, while Johnson tallied 16 on the year.

Fitzgerald also won the assists crown with 20. Jaeckel finished with 14, and Brian Tourmo tied Freddie Bexell with 13.

The 2014 champion will be crowned Sunday, Feb. 23 in a one-day single elimination tournament at the rink. No matter the outcome, the JJ’s squad is still expected to celebrate their 2011 championship that night.
