Wildlife Refuge Seeks Input on Washington Island Electric Coop Request

The Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge is soliciting public comments on a Draft Compatibility Determination that assesses the compatibility of the Washington Island Electric Cooperative’s Request for Right-of-Way to facilitate installation of a new 35kv electric power cable and associated lines across Plum Island.  The refuge is evaluating whether this request is compatible with the purposes for which the refuge was established.

The purpose of the Washington Island Electric Cooperative’s request is to replace a compromised existing submarine power cable that supplies all electricity to Washington Island.

The public is invited to review these documents and provide comments to the refuge by Aug 18, 2018.  Comments should be send in writing to [email protected] or:

To review the Draft Compatibility Determination, copies are available at the Washington Island Community Center, The Washington Island Electric Cooperative, the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge, and at  http://www.fws.gov/refuge/green_bay/.

Plum Island is located in Lake Michigan, near Washington Island, off the tip of Wisconsin’s Door County Peninsula.
