Will Cinderella Put Campaign Over the Top?

Parents, students and other friends of the Sturgeon Bay High School (SBHS) performing arts program are working to raise $46,900 to replace the school’s outdated sound system with new state-of-the-art equipment.

The campaign is called Can You Hear Us Now?! and is 95 percent of the way toward meeting its goal. A very successful, student-led Coffeehouse Concert held in mid-January as well as contributions from businesses, individuals and foundations have accounted for the $44,445 raised to date. The group is hoping to announce that it has raised the last $2,455 it needs at this weekend’s all-school musical, Cinderella.

Theresa Kay-Meredith is co-chair of the fundraising effort and has volunteered her time for many years working on set designs for school productions. She took a break from painting bricks on Cinderella’s fireplace to explain the importance of a good sound system.

“Right now, there are kids who work very hard preparing their parts and they just aren’t being heard as well as they should be. They are having such a good time and learning so much through the process of putting together a production. We want to support their efforts,” she said.

Campaign co-chair Nicky Isaksen concurs.

“We’re really excited about what a new sound system will do for the future of our performing arts program and we’re grateful for everyone who has contributed to this effort and who supports the youth and arts in our community. We hope that everyone will come out to see Cinderella and hopefully get to hear of our campaign’s success!”

Cinderella will be performed at the SBHS Auditorium on Thursday, February 5 at 7 pm; Friday, Feb 6 at 7pm; Saturday, Feb 7 at 7 pm and Sunday, Feb 8 at 3 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 students and general admission. In addition to hosting a wide variety of school performances, the 456-seat SBHS Auditorium is used by the broader Sturgeon Bay and Door County communities throughout the year for a multitude of events and is a valued asset to the entire community.

Donations for the new sound system may be sent to Sturgeon Bay High School, 1230 Michigan St., Sturgeon Bay, Wis., 54235. Please note “new sound system” in memo line. For more information, please contact Theresa Kay-Meredith at 920.746.8269 or Nicky Isaksen at 920.495.0028.
