At the 23rd Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition, Door Peninsula Winery’s Peninsula Red earned a double gold medal and was the only Wisconsin wine to receive this distinction. The judges award bronze, silver and gold medals, and when their decision is unanimous, they award double golds.
Peninsula Red is a Meritage-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes paired with Door County cherry juice that has earned several other awards since its inception nearly 20 years ago.
During the competition, Door Peninsula Winery also received medals for Cherry Buzz, Fire, Frost, Cherry Berry Twist, Tequila Barrel Aged Sauvignon Blanc, Cherry Mimosa, Cranberry Mule, Plum Loco, Cherry Frost, Frostline, Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Sauvignon, Mead, Sweet Cherry, Dry Cherry, and Red, White & Blueberry.
The Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition has become one of the world’s largest charitable wine and spirits competitions. Its proceeds help to fund Camp Good Days and Special Times, which serves children and families whose lives have been affected by cancer and sickle cell anemia.
