Winter High School Sports Seasons Set to Begin

The conclusion of the fall high school sports seasons is giving way to winter sports getting underway.

Door County’s girls basketball teams were able to begin practices Monday, with their games beginning next week.

Gibraltar, which opens the season Nov. 15 at Two Rivers, hosts another non-conference game Nov. 18 against Hilbert.

Sevastopol opens the season Nov. 15 at Suring, followed by a home non-conference game scheduled Nov. 17 against Shiocton.

Southern Door plays its season opener Nov. 18 at Wausaukee.

Sturgeon Bay opens the season at home Nov. 18 against Chilton.

Practices for boys basketball teams are allowed to begin Nov. 14, with their first games of the season starting Nov. 22.

Two of the county’s varsity teams will open the season at home Nov. 22 when the other two teams play their first games on the road. 

Sevastopol hosts Bonduel, and Southern Door is at home against Denmark, while Sturgeon Bay will head to Chilton, and Gibraltar plays at Kohler.

The Door County United boys swimming team, which also is able to begin official practices Nov. 14, has its first meet of the season Nov. 22 at Chilton.

The county’s two wrestling teams – Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol and Southern Door – are also allowed to start practices Nov. 14, but their first meets of the season aren’t scheduled until next month.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol opens the season Dec. 2 at Kimberly, while Southern Door’s first meet is set for Dec. 3 at Stratford.
