Winter Hikes to Begin

Frequently on winter hikes at Crossroads at Big Creek, many mammals are spotted, including porcupines, deer, squirrels, etc. On Nov. 15 at 2 pm the family program is “Mammals in Winter.” Learners of all ages will visit the wildlife display to learn how the various mammals of Door County make it through the cold season. An optional hike will follow if it’s not too cold.

Two other nature hikes are scheduled for this week. On Nov. 14 at 10 am, the destination will be Crossroads Ida Bay Forest. Hikers will gather at the Collins Learning Center and travel by vehicle for this one-hour exploration of the existing trails at the new preserve. At 4 pm on Nov. 16 there will be a “Green and Gold Hike” for hikers to enjoy the last of the fall foliage. This is easy hiking.

Meet at the Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, for all of these programs/hikes. Collins Learning Center is open 2 – 4:30 pm daily and during scheduled events.
