The hills of Winter Park in Kewaunee will welcome skiers, snowboarders and snow tubers to the hills of Winter Park starting Saturday, Dec. 23. The hill at N3751 Ransom Moore Lane, Kewaunee is open for the 2017-18 season.
As an early Christmas gift to those eager to visit the park, Winter Park is opening for a test run on its snow tubing hill as well as its skiing and snowboarding hills from 11 am -4 pm.
The park will then reopen to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 11 am – 4 pm for skiing and snowboarding and 11 am -5 pm for snow tubing. These will also be the times for Thursday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Dec. 29 before regular season weekend only hours go into effect Saturday, Dec. 30.
“It’s awesome to be able to open to visitors before Christmas and during ‘Winter Break’,” said Jennifer Schneider, Kewaunee County Tourism Coordinator/Public Information Officer. “We have a lot of amazing people to thank for that as well as Mother Nature.”
It took approximately eight days with just the right weather conditions to make enough snow to groom the terrain that consists of five runs for skiing and snowboarding and a snow tubing hill that now has a Magic Carpet, a standing conveyor belt lift, which replaced the hill’s tow rope system.
“The tubing line is going to move much more efficiently and it’s going to be really neat to see how excited visitors are about riding the Magic Carpet,” said Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotion & Recreation Director. “We should be able to accommodate approximately 150 snow tubers on the hill at any given time.”
