Wisconsin History Tour Programs

In addition to the Wisconsin History Tour exhibit at the Anderson Barn, the tour also brings a number of authors, genealogists, architects, and archivists to present special programs for all ages at neighboring Ephraim Village Hall (and other Door County locations as noted in the program).

Events include:

Friday, July 25

• One Room Schools – for KIDS!, 10 am, Ephraim Village Hall

Teacher Susan Apps-Bodilly, author of the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, One Room Schools: Stories from 1 Room, 1 Teacher, 8 Grades, will take kids of all ages on a journey through the one-room school experience. Try the lesson of the day, learn about school lunches of the past and play an old-time recess game. A book signing will follow.

• History Sandwiched In – Return to Wake Robin: One Cabin in the Heyday of Northwoods Retreats, 12 pm, Ephraim Village Hall

Marnie Mamminga shares family stories from five generations of trips to the Mamminga cabin, Wake Robin. The award-winning author of the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book – and Wisconsin Public Radio A Chapter a Day audio book – Return to Wake Robin: One Cabin in the Heyday of Northwoods Retreats, invites you to share in the campfire tales and family cabin memories.

Building Taliesin: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home of Love and Loss, 7 pm, Ephraim Village Hall

Spend an evening admiring the uncomplicated lines – and complicated life story – of Wisconsin’s most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Ron McCrea, former daily newspaper editor and Frank Lloyd Wright historian, shares the history – and recently uncovered photos – of Wright’s first Taliesin from McCrea’s award-winning Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, Building Taliesin: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home of Love and Loss.

Saturday, July 26

Free community appreciation and Wisconsin Historical Society member family event.

• Great Ships on the Great Lakes, 12:30 pm, on the green at Ephraim Historical Foundation, 3060 Anderson Lane, Ephraim

The afternoon begins with a short, interactive presentation at 12:30 pm, Shipwrecks for Kids with Underwater Archaeologist Tamara Thomsen. The presentation is based in part on the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, Great Ships on the Great Lakes, and will be followed by history-related kids’ activities like decorating your own old-fashioned kite, learning one room school recess games, and much more.
