Wisconsin Ports Week Recognized in Door County

• Sept. 9 through 15 is Wisconsin Ports Week, and it won’t go unnoticed in Door County.

The Detroit Harbor dredging project will begin in mid-September, with Roen Salvage Company doing the work. It will be the largest dredging project in Detroit Harbor since 1937, according to Washington Island Ferry Line CEO Dick Purinton. The project is expected to wrap up next year.

On Sept. 12 and 13, the Wisconsin Commercial Ports Association will hold its annual meeting at the Historic Island Dairy on Washington Island to discuss issues such as water levels, infrastructure, funding and maritime commerce.

• The September Village of Ephraim Board of Trustees meeting has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4 pm.

• The September Village of Sister Bay Board of Trustees meeting has been moved to Sept. 17 at 6 pm.

• The Sustain Door meeting has been moved to 7 pm Monday, Sept. 9, at the Sturgeon Bay Library basement. The meeting will include viewing the short documentary Agro Rebel, about Austrian permaculture forester Sepp Holzer.

• Tuesday, Sept. 10 is national Groundwater Protection Day, and the Department of Natural Resources is hosting a live chat on groundwater, private wells and public drinking water supplies. To participate in the live chat, log on to dnr.wi.gov and look for the box on the right that links to the chat.

The Wisconsin Groundwater Coordinating Council recently released information on current groundwater conditions in its annual report, available on the Department of Natural Resources website.
