Woodwalk Concert Series closes with an evening of Wise Women in music and dance, Sept. 1 at 7 pm. Singer/songwriters Jenny Bienemann, Jess Holland, Marybeth Mattson and Jeanne Kuhns will perform in Nashville songwriters semi-circle style and take turns performing their original music. Of the four summer songbirds, Holland, Kuhns and Mattson are local Door County writers and Bienemann is from Oak Park, Ill. with a summer home in Door County. Local belly dancer from Dancin’ on the Door, Andria Nikoupolis-Weliky will start each half of the show with dance.
Holland is new to the Wise Women show. She is a folk musician raised by rock ‘n roll musicians. She is influenced by Gillian Welch, Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell and more. She also plays guitar and banjo in the duo Deathfolk.
Bienemann’s crystal clear vocals, looping talents and innovative guitar combined with wise and quirky lyrics offer a sense of peace and joy.
Kuhns writes progressive folk ballads, telling stories about her view of the world with the eye of an artist.
Mattson has an edgy, folk-rock voice with a hint of dark in it, lending credence to her deep lyrical content talking about life journeys in a deceptively poetic way.
