WMC Head Keynotes DCEDC Investors Meeting

Kurt Bauer

The Door County Economic Development Corporation has announced that Kurt Bauer, president and CEO of the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), will be the keynote speaker at the annual investors meeting and luncheon on Wednesday, April 29, at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay. Bauer’s remarks will address “The State of Wisconsin’s Business Climate.”

In addition to the keynote address by Kurt Bauer, the annual investors meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The Industry of the Year Award recognizes a construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year. The Entrepreneur of the Year Award celebrates those individuals who have taken the initiative to start and grow a successful small business in Door County.

This year’s annual meeting will include the debut of a new talent attraction video, produced by DCEDC and a number of local companies. The video, by filmmaker Brett Kosmider (borealsky.com), highlights the positive aspects of work and life in Door County that can assist local firms in recruiting the skilled workforce required for their continued growth in our community.

This year will also see the debut of the Wellness Works Awards, a collaboration between DCEDC, the Door County YMCA and Ministry Door County Medical Center, recognizing business leaders who encourage employee wellness. The luncheon meeting will also include the annual report to the community about the accomplishments of DCEDC during 2014.

Bauer became just the fifth head of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) in 2011. Before joining WMC, Bauer spent 18 years working for financial industry trade groups, including serving as CEO for both the Wisconsin and Arizona Bankers Associations. Bauer is a Wisconsin native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Founded in 1911, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce is Wisconsin’s leading business association dedicated to making Wisconsin the most competitive state in the nation. WMC works to advance policies it believes are in the public interest of our state and nation. Currently, the association has nearly 3,800 members that include both large and small manufacturers, service companies, local chambers of commerce and specialized trade associations.
