Women with Spirit Concert features Sue Demel, Dorothy Scott and Jeanne Kuhns

On Feb. 23 at 7 pm, Door County Medical Center presents Women with Spirit – An Evening of Outstanding Music at the Door County Fire Company. The concert is intended for men and women of all ages and will feature Sue Demel, Dorothy Scott and Jeanne Kuhns with special guests.

Demel is a founding and current member of the folk trio, Sons of the Never Wrong. Whether it’s scatting, chanting, collaborating or teaching, Demel explodes the pre-conceived notions of harmony singing.

Scott has flowed effortlessly between genres, achieving popularity in pop, folk, blues and alternative. Her live performance is passionate and real, fierce and funny, outspoken and vulnerable. Her tours of the U.S., Ireland, Sweden and Canada left a growing following in their wake. Along her travels she has shared the stage with Carole King, Jackson Browne, Jeff Buckley, Janis Ian, Joan Armatrading, Joan Osborne and The Frames.

Kuhns weaves mystical lyrics and intriguing musical patterns into a fusion of folksy blues and gentle rock wrapped in her brand of progressive folk. Kuhns is a fixture in the Door County scene, and is part of the trio Small Forest. Jeanne, Marybeth Mattson and Patrick Palmer sing original music by Kuhns and Mattson. Their songs, with three-part harmonies, have an edgy poetic quality and are soul-soothing with a touch of wild.

Tickets cost $15 and proceeds will go to support LEAP The Human Kindness Project. For more information or to reserve a table, call 920.493.5979.
