Women’s Equality Day Car Parade

The League of Women Voters of Door County will celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the 19th Amendment by hosting a car parade – back by popular demand – on Aug. 26, 12 pm. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, early activists for women’s suffrage, will be in the parade and address the crowd afterward at Martin Park.

The car parade is open to anyone. Participants are encouraged to decorate their cars with “Votes for Women” or “Equality” signs and streamers, and to wear costumes and floppy hats. Prizes will go to the best-decorated cars. Invite your friends and family, and get ready to honk and shout.

Cars will begin lining up north of the intersection of Jefferson Street and 3rd Avenue at 11:15 am. The parade will proceed along 3rd Avenue, turn right at Michigan Street, cross the bridge, proceed along Madison Avenue to the old school, go around the block, return over the Oregon Street Bridge and end at Martin Park, where a short program, refreshments, and music by Cathy Grier and Tony Menzer of Cathy Grier and the Troublemakers will await participants.
