The Door County YMCA announces The Women’s Fund of Door County has awarded a grant of $800 to support young women participating in the 2014-15 Youth in Government Program. Guided by teachers and volunteers, Youth in Government educates students about the judicial, legislative and executive branches of our government, encourages lifelong responsible citizenship and gives teens the opportunity to learn firsthand about the lawmaking process.
Eric Natwick, youth development director at the Door County YMCA, commented, “Youth in Government is such an important part of what we do because participants ultimately strengthen our communities by becoming active responsible contributors who are inspired to lead and empowered to create meaningful change. Most importantly, the program teaches the values of civility in the political process and encourages our youth – both young women and young men – to consider careers in government.”
