Wood Carving Demonstration at Newport House Gallery

Newport House Gallery in Ellison Bay is pleased to host a carving demonstration by world class carvers Bob and Joshua Guge on Aug. 1, 1 – 4 pm, in the gallery courtyard. The artists will be interacting with gallery visitors.

Bob Guge is an outstanding carver who is a consistent Best of Show winner in competitions throughout the country, having been awarded five “Best in World” titles. Bob’s many years of observing birds in the wild and studying the nuances that make each species unique, combined with careful scrutiny of photographs has honed his ability to capture the life essence of each bird in exquisite detail.

In addition to producing work, Bob teaches carving, is a much sought after instructor and has also co-authored several books on carving and painting wildfowl. He has been a Newport House Gallery Artist for over 20 years, exhibiting a wide assortment of original carvings of North American birds.

Joshua Guge is a third generation wood carver following in the footsteps of his father Bob and his Grandfather Roy. By the age of 13 Joshua was selling his fish carvings to art galleries and began competing at age 17. His interest and skill in carving fish has won him several competitions and “Best of Show” honors. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Visual communications he began his own wood carving business, creating work and teaching classes. Josh’s carvings can be seen at Newport House Gallery.
