Woodwalk Gallery of Door County Opens Season with “TREES”

Woodwalk Gallery will open their 17th season Sunday, May 29 from 4:30 – 8:30 pm, with an exhibit of new works by resident artists Margaret Lockwood and Kirsten Christianson. Under the title of “TREES,” both artists bring forth bold, evocative signature works for this show.

Lockwood is Woodwalk’s owner/artist, a Door County Master Artist, and the recent recipient of the Milwaukee area’s Professional Dimensions 2011 commission. Her ethereal, impressionistic Door County landscapes are instantly recognizable whether the subject matter is of landscapes, trees, skies or water.

Christianson is an environmental artist best known for her work in handmade paper and natural materials. She has been on the faculty of Peninsula School of Art and recently was appointed to the faculty at the new NWTC Artisan and Business Center. She is also the coordinator of the Handmade Paper Center at Woodwalk, which offers classes throughout the summer. For the “TREES” exhibit she has created several large-scale works.

Following the reception, Woodwalk will transform into a concert setting and feature a release party for David Hatch and Lynn Gudmundsen’s new CD Beginnings. Patrick Palmer, George Sawyn and Hans Christian will join them in concert.

Woodwalk Gallery, open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, is located just off Highway 42 on County G. The Opening Reception, from 4:30 – 6 pm, will be followed by a picnic-style dinner, then the release party starting at 6:30 pm. There is a $10 admission for the release party.
