Woodwalk Offering Fall Craft Workshops

Woodwalk Gallery is known for showcasing the artwork of more than 75 local and regional artists in its historical barn. From watercolors and oils, to encaustics and metal work, to pottery and wood carvings, artworks in a variety of media await visitors who will view and purchase them. And now, for those who are looking to explore their own artistic abilities, Woodwalk co-owner Joslyn Villalpando is offering craft workshops.

Inspired by the natural beauty of Door County, recent workshops have included watercolor florals and macramé plant hangers, along with a special floral embroidery and floral arrangement workshop with guest OneEighty Petals Specialty Cut Flower Farm in Fish Creek.

These workshops, though new to Woodwalk, are not new territory for Villalpando, who, in a former life as an elementary school art teacher, led similar workshops when she lived in Chicago.

It started while she was completing her master’s degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studying the impact of craft and fiber art on art education.

“My small research group of young participants grew into a little community while learning to weave, sew, embroider and dye,” she said.

What began as crafting cocktail parties with friends in the home she shared with her husband, Matt, blossomed into a traveling crafting business. It was inspired by old sewing circles and bringing together Villalpando’s love of community, love of handmade items and some of Chicago’s most popular bars, restaurants, coffeehouses, boutiques and cupcakeries. Today those workshops have found a permanent home within the lofty walls of the Woodwalk Gallery’s barn at 6746 Cty G in Egg Harbor.

Workshop offerings, which change seasonally, average $55-$70 per participant and include all the materials needed to make the project, step-by-step guided instruction and light refreshments, including sweet and savory treats from Galecktables. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Find additional information about the workshops and registration links at woodwalkgallery.com/workshops.
