Woodworking Folk Art Depicts Lighthouses

Door County Interiors & Design has added two large-scale art pieces by Richard Waite of Delafield, Wis. to their collection. The pieces, created in a style called lath art – a form of woodworking folk art – depict Door County’s Cana Island Lighthouse and Eagle Bluff Lighthouse.

Waite, a former home builder, has taken on lath art as a hobby. The colorful 24-by-24-inch framed art pieces are made from sections of white pine assembled in mosaic-like patterns, painted and glued together. The Cana Island Lighthouse is done in red and brown with a bright blue sky and even wood seagulls flying around. The Eagle Bluff Lighthouse has colors of blue, red, brown and green.
