Working with the Grain

Artwork by Kevin Pereira.

The Pereira Family invites everyone to stop in their Wood Gallery at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. Kevin has been building and creating with different types of wood for more than 27 years.

Kevin’s passion started with his love of being in the woods. He began to build custom work for friends and family. The more he worked with wood the more creative he became. Kevin started turning about seven years ago and found that each piece is a one-of-a-kind art piece. The Pereira’s believed that this beauty needed to be shared with others. Both of Kevin’s sons share his passion for creating with wood, and his wife and daughter enjoy running the gallery.

Kevin’s staple piece is the six-foot cedar lighted lighthouses he builds. He spends months making jigs to make the tapered angled pieces needed for the round style. Then he creates the four sections needed to complete the lighthouse. Each is numbered and can be customized.

Kevin also creates wood bowls, vases, wine stoppers, candleholders, cutting boards, birdfeeders and custom work. Each piece is created to bring out the natural beauty of the grain in different types of wood. Pereira’s Wood Works is open 9 am – 5 pm Friday through Monday, and call ahead for Thursday hours. The gallery is located at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. For more information call 920.868.WOOD (9663).
