Instructor Charlotte Lukes will introduce participants to the diverse world of fungi and teach them the skills to identify wild mushrooms. Then the group will walk on The Clearing property to observe fungi and learn how to collect and identify them using field guides.
Wear sturdy walking shoes, and take a notebook, pen, camera and your favorite mushroom field guide. A letter (available at theclearing.org) will be sent prior to class.
Charlotte Lukes photographed her first mushroom in 1971, has explored most of Door County in search of new species and has been collecting, studying and photographing wild mushrooms for more than 40 years. She has identified nearly 600 species in the county, which she has described and illustrated at uwgb.edu/biodiversity/resources/mushrooms.
Join Charlotte Lukes on Friday, Aug. 30, 9 am – 4 pm, at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Center, 12171 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay, for an insightful wild-mushroom workshop. Call 920.854.4088 to register; learn more at theclearing.org. The cost of $103 per person includes lunch.
