World-Renowned Peony Hybridizer to Speak

The Door County Master Gardeners Association announces another free program on Jan. 22, 7 pm, in the Collins Learning Center at Crossroads at Big Creek. Nate Bremer, owner of Solaris Farms in Reedsville, Wisconsin, will present “The Little Shrub with Big Flowers” and discuss tree peonies — or, more accurately, shrub peonies or woody peonies.

A PowerPoint slideshow and discussion will bring this plant into gardeners’ dreams and plans. Bremer will dispel myths about growing these tremendously worthy plants and look at the wide range of varieties and forms that are available to today’s gardeners.

Nate Bremer is a world-renowned peony hybridizer.

Bremer is the owner of Solaris Farms, which specializes in hybridizing and growing high-performance, northern-tier paeonia, hemerocallis and lilium. Much of his time is dedicated to growing and producing new cultivars of woody peonies, and he is considered the world’s foremost hybridizer of these unusual plants. The program is free and open to the public.
