WPT Receives Emmy Award for Birch Creek Televised Performance

The 2016 Midwest Emmy Awards were held Dec. 3 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown and broadcast live by WGN. For their segment “Percussion at Birch Creek Music Performance Center” Wisconsin Public Television was honored with a Midwest Emmy Award for Best Arts/Entertainment Programming (Special Series). The segment was filmed as a portion of a larger series showcasing Birch Creek’s Symphony and Percussion Academy Sessions during the summer of 2015. These one-hour segments were broadcast statewide by Wisconsin Public Television during 2015.

Founded in 1955, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. The Academy recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Award. Regional Emmy Awards are given in 19 regions across the United States.

Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor is a residential summer music academy for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day, and perform alongside them in concerts at night.
