Write On, Door County! Hosts Community Events

Nancy Carlson

On Sept. 29, 1 – 5 pm, Edgewood Orchard Galleries will host an opening reception for children’s book author Nancy Carlson as a part of Write On, Door County!, an initiative to facilitate and promote writing in Door County. Carlson returns to Fish Creek to work with Gibraltar Elementary students, and to display works at Edgewood. Her original drawings will be exhibited, Sept. 29 – 31.

The reception is open to kids of all ages, and features a writer’s talk, refreshments and book signing. Carlson will speak about her experiences writing and illustrating children’s books for over 30 years from 2 – 3 pm.

Carlson’s books include Loudmouth George, Harriet, and I Like Me; her newest creation is Henry’s Amazing Imagination. At the event, 20 percent of the book sales will be donated to Write On, Door County!

Edgewood Orchard Galleries is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, between Juddville and Fish Creek.

Write On, Door County! will hold a public meeting on Oct. 9 at the Door Community Auditorium to discuss the concept of a community writing center. Jerod Santek, program director of the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, will facilitate the discussion and share information about his work at the Loft and about what he learned from writing centers around the country.

The presentation will be held 9 – 11 am, with optional small group sessions from 11 am – 12 pm. Coffee and refreshments will be available.
