Write On in 2014

Everyone at Write On, Door County! has been very busy this fall planning for everything scheduled for 2014.

In celebration of International Mother Language Day in February, an evening of readings of poems in languages other than English is planned. If you are, or if you know of someone who is, fluent in other languages who would like to take part in this event, send an email to [email protected]. Also, in April Write On is planning an evening of Door County ‘personalities’ reading their favorite poems. If you have suggestions of people to read, send them to [email protected].

Write On will hold a book discussion for the Door County Reads program on Jan. 26 at 1:30 pm at their newly renovated home at 4177 Juddville Road. The featured book is Wendell Berry’s The Memory of Old Jack. The discussion will be led by Pastor Karla Kirkeby, interim pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. There will also be a mini-memoir writing workshop on Feb. 5 at the Forestville Town Hall.

In February, writers’ socials will be held in various venues around the county. These coffee hours/happy hours will provide informal opportunities to meet other are writers. Peer critique groups will start at the Juddville house in February in the genres of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s writing. There will also be book discussion groups at the Juddville house, including a poetry reading group and a book group for Door County singles who love to read.

Volunteers are wanted to serve in a variety of capacities: mentors for writers of all ages, facilitators for peer critique groups, and leaders of book discussion groups. Volunteer time commitments can be a one-time opportunity or a long-term project. For more information visit writeondoorcounty.org or find them on Facebook.
