Write On Residency Scholarship Closing Soon

Write On, Door County is offering the Dick Scuglik Memorial Residency and Scholarship to a poet or other writer who has a demonstrated ability and interest in ekphrastic writing.

The application deadline is Feb. 15, and the residency is awarded annually during the third week of June. The program honors the memory of Dick Scuglik and his passion for painting and books.

The selected writer will be paired with a Door County visual artist, and they will share work with each other, each creating a new work in response to the other’s work prior to the start of the residency.

During the residency, both writer and artist will participate in a public event at which the new work will be shared, along with a conversation about the creative process.

Although ekphrastic writing is most common in poetry, Write On welcomes applications from all genres, provided that the work sample submitted fits the classification of ekphrasis.

A scholarship fund is available to assist the writer with residency-related travel expenses. Visit writeondoorcounty.org/residency to learn more.
