Write On Workshops

Write On, Door County announces an exciting line-up of writing classes and workshops for May. Classes are held at various locations throughout Door County and costs vary.

Starting May 9, author Lynda Drews offers a four-part class “From Concept to ISBN.” Using a mixture of lecture and in-class writing activities, Drews will lead participants through a seven-step process for turning an idea into a novel or memoir. The class meets May 9, 16, 30, and June 6, 9am – noon, at the Paul J. Bertschinger Community Center in Egg Harbor. Cost for the class is $240.

Visiting poet Athena Kildegaard leads a special afternoon workshop “Writing Poetry from Found Material.” Bring along old family letters, a high school yearbook, your mother’s recipe file, or any other material for inspiration. Participants can expect to leave with at least two new poems. The workshop will be held May 16, 1 – 4 pm, at the Ephraim Historical Foundation in Ephraim. Cost for the workshop is $65.

Designed for beginning and intermediate nonfiction writers, Veronica Kavass’ “Revealing Narrative through Listening: How to Illustrate Characters in Nonfiction,” will help those who want to write about real people. The workshop will include a short presentation and reading, as well as in-class writing. The workshop will be held May 20, 2 – 5 pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. Tuition for the three-hour workshop is $65.

“Beyond Plot: How to Make Your Fiction Breathe” is designed for beginning and intermediate fiction writers who want to develop realistic and compelling characters. The workshop will be held on May 20 from 2 – 5 pm at the Door Shakespeare conference room in Baileys Harbor. Tuition for the three-hour workshop is $65.
