Writing On The Door Series Focuses on Mysteries

Write On, Door County’s conference series, Writing on the Door, will present its first conference for mystery lovers Oct. 22-24. It will feature panel discussions with authors and breakout sessions at Write On’s writing center and the Birch Creek Music Performance Center.

Presenting authors will include Pete Hautman, who earned the National Book Award for his young adult novel Godless, as well as Mary Logue, Bianca Sloane, Sandra Jackson-Opoku, Marcie Rendon, John DeDakis, Mia Manansala and Patricia Skalka. The presenters will also include playwright Matt Zembrowski, who wrote the musical mystery Whatever Happened to Karl Jenko?, which premiered at Northern Sky Theater this summer; and Dennis Lloyd, director of the University of Wisconsin Press, which publishes mystery titles that include Skalka’s popular Dave Cubiak Door County Mystery Series.

Skalka’s books will be the focus of an optional trolley tour Oct. 24 that will visit prominent sites in the mystery series. Skalka will be on the trolley to talk about the locations and the importance of setting in her novels.

Attendees can register for one or both days, and the trolley-tour registration is separate. Space is limited, so register soon at writeondoorcounty.org.
