Writing With and About Our Bodies

Write On, Door County, in partnership with the Northern Door YMCA, present a special free class with Write On resident Naomi Cohn. Body Language: Writing With and About Our Bodies will be presented Friday, November 1, 10 am – noon, at the Northern Door YMCA. The program is free to members of the Y and Write On; others are asked to make a goodwill donation. Though free, registration is required via www.writeondoorcounty.org or by calling 920-868-1457.

Whether in love or fury, sickness or health, our relationship with our bodies is at the heart of our writing. In this generative workshop, participants will be inspired to write from the five senses, from examples of how other writers tackle the body as subject and share some tips on how to be kind to our bodies as we write.

Writing examples in sessions are drawn from poetry, but all kinds of writing and writers are welcome. Naomi Cohn is a poet, essayist, and teaching artist. Through her project, Known By Heart, she leads accessible poetry workshops and experiences and publishes poetry posters featuring the work of older adults and people with disabilities.

She is the author of the chapbook Between Nectar & Eternity, and her writing has appeared in numerous journals including Nimrod International, Poetry, and Water~Stone. She has been awarded grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board, VSA Minnesota, Next Step Fund, and several writing residencies, including at Norcroft, the Anderson Center, and the Studios of Key West.
