Workshop at Orchard Country Winery Pairs Writing & Wine

Write On, Door County offers a special afternoon class, “Creating Characters that Connect with Readers,” with acclaimed mystery novelist Patricia Skalka, April 23, 1 – 4 pm. This workshop will show writers how to create multi-dimensional characters that will live on in readers’ minds. End the class by deciding what kind of wine your character would drink! Orchard Country Winery and Market will present a special private wine tasting for class participants.

Tall or short? Cheerful or grim? Blond or brunette? This workshop takes writers beyond superficial descriptions and shows them how to create truly multi-dimensional characters, the kind that dance off the page and come alive for readers.

Skalka is the author of the Dave Cubiak Door County Mystery Series. The first novel in the series, Death Stalks Door County, was released in spring of 2014. Death at Gills Rock was published in June 2015. The novels have earned critical praise for both their story lines and their characters. Skalka is a former freelance staff writer for Reader’s Digest specializing in medical and human interest stories. She has worked as a magazine editor, ghost writer, and writing instructor. A native of Chicago, she lives in the city and takes time off at her Door County cottage.

Cost for the class and tasting is $45. Orchard Country Winery is located at 9197 Highway 42 in Fish Creek. For more information or to register, visit writeondoorcounty.org or call 920.868.1457.
