Yardstick Hosts Reading for Kewaunee Author

Kewaunee author Ralls Melotte will read from his first novel, Cat’s Cafe, on April 14, 5:30-6:30 pm, at Yardstick Books. He’ll also discuss his writing process and the extensive research that went into the book – the first in his Eagle Rock trilogy – because he used the events that led to the creation of the real town of Idaho Falls, Idaho, as inspiration for Eagle Rock.

Set in the 1870s American West, aristocrat Catherine Stubin finds herself in the arms of a handsome and charismatic Irishman, Patrick Callaway, who takes her by rail to the hardscrabble town of Eagle Rock. Far from being the love-story setting he had promised, the West is fearsome and filthy. Catherine must choose between living a hard life among cowboys, rail workers, Native Americans and Mormon settlers, or returning to her life of ease – a life she despises.
