Yardstick Offers Programming for Young Writers

As part of ArtBeet of Kewaunee’s Youth Art Month celebrations, Yardstick Books (yardstickalgoma.com), 317 Steele St. in Algoma, will host a Literary Salon for Young Writers, ages 14-17, on March 11, 7-9 pm.

This is a free opportunity for young writers to share their fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry and more with a small, supportive audience of peers in an atmospheric setting. The night will include refreshments, giveaways and good company.

Laura Anne Bird, author of Crossing the Pressure Line – her debut middle-grade novel – will lead a free program March 19, 1 pm, for students ages 8-14 featuring a book reading, Q&A, snack and a nature-based activity relating to the book. Each participant will also receive a free copy of the book.

Registration for both events is required at yardstickalgoma.com.

Yardstick also hosts a monthly Letter Writing Society every second Saturday. It’s a low-key community event involving letter and postcard writing during which participants can meet new and old acquaintances and stay in touch with the people in their life. The next meeting will take place March 13, 1-2 pm.
