YMCA Offers Diabetes Prevention Program

The Door County YMCA offers the Diabetes Prevention Program for those at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The next information session is May 31, 4:30 pm at the Fish Creek YMCA to give potential participants more information about the program, and to see if they are eligible to participate.

“As one of the leading community-based charities committed to improving the health of the Door County community, the Y wants all people to understand their risk for pre-diabetes and steps to take to avoid developing type 2 diabetes,” said Tonya Felhofer, diabetes prevention program director at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA.

The Door County YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is directed by Tonya Felhofer, diabetes prevention lifestyle coach and program manager, and co-led by lifestyle coach Tess Johnson.

Through educational and motivational weekly group sessions, participants are encouraged to eat healthier and receive informational documents. Participants also receive a free membership to the YMCA for the first six months of the program.
