YMCA Reminds Community Sept. is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

The Door County YMCA reminds the community that September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness and Fall Prevention Awareness month.

“At the Door County Y, we want families to understand the lifetime benefits of eating right and getting physically active and those behaviors begin in the home,” said Leah Pluff, healthy eating coordinator. “If healthy habits are established at home they will carry over to when children are out of their parents’ care and that will dramatically help reduce obesity in our community.”

To create healthy environments in out-of-school programs, the YMCA is implementing healthy eating and physical activity standards in before and after school programs. To learn more about the nutrition efforts, contact Pluff at [email protected].

A Stepping-On Fall Prevention Program begins Oct. 2 at the Northern Door YMCA in Fish Creek. This is a free class and open to anyone in the community. Space is limited; contact Christine Webb-Miller at 743.4949 to register.
