Yoga and Poetry Retreat

Poet, children’s author and yoga instructor James Mihaley leads a special week-long poetry and yoga retreat, Aug. 3 – 7. Additional yoga instruction will be provided by Kathy Navis, of Junction Center Yoga.

Mihaley grew up in Door County and currently resides in Los Angeles. He is a certified yoga instructor, poet and the author of The New Yogi Manifesto. He believes the natural beauty of Door County makes an ideal setting for a combined poetry and yoga retreat. From such diverse natural settings as the beaches of Green Bay, a llama farm, cherry orchard, and forests, participants will find inspiration for new poems and will practice yoga. Each day will feature three hours of poetry writing and two hours of yoga and meditation.

Mihaley said, “I love the gorgeous calming effect that yoga has on my mind and entire nervous system and the way in which it enables me to interact gracefully with anyone I encounter. Poetry has been an integral part of the yogic tradition for thousands of years. I love upholding that tradition, making it contemporary.”

The retreat is open to all levels. The retreat includes a welcome reception Sunday afternoon and a BYO picnic dinner, a group reading, and other social opportunities. Tuition covers the cost of classes; participants are responsible for their own lodging and for most meals.

Offered through Write On, Door County, yoga and poetry sessions will be offered in natural settings in the Egg Harbor and Fish Creek areas. Class enrollment is limited to 20. The cost is $525. To register, call 920.868.1457 or email [email protected].
