ZION Dedicates Historical Window

In 1905, George and Wilhelmina Reinhard gave an acre of their farmland to build the Zion Evangelical Church on County F between Baileys Harbor and Fish Creek. The one-room building was to have been dedicated on Easter Sunday in 1906, but George died on Good Friday, so the dedication was delayed.

In 2000, when an addition was added to the church – now called Zion United Methodist – the original three-sectioned stained-glass window over the sanctuary entrance was replaced with clear glass to match the entrance to the addition.

Last year, the old window was discovered in the church basement, restored by glass artist Gary Chaudoir and installed on a wall in the church’s Fellowship Room. The restoration and a matching glass plaque were funded by donations in memory of M. Jeanne Reinhard Desotelle, a great-granddaughter of George Reinhard and a lifelong member of Zion who died Feb. 21.

The window and plaque were dedicated in Desotelle’s memory April 25.
