On Memorial Day weekend, a dog with great potential arrived at the shelter and she has bloomed into a blue-eyed beauty. Cinder is her name; she is a spayed Husky mix, approximately one year old and 50 pounds. The rough treatment she once received is in the past, and the future looks bright because when adopted, Cinder will be a family friend for years to come. With two dog pals at the shelter, Cinder loves nothing more than splashing in the wading pools around the grassy play area. (As a Husky, she cannot be adopted into a household with a cat).

There are kittens, kittens, and more kittens cavorting in cages all over the shelter. But older cats need attention too. Rex, a calm and observant black tabby, is a relatively new arrival, coming up as a stray in May. Rex is approximately eight years old, has been neutered and now weighs 10 pounds.

Adoption costs are $85 for cats and kittens, $120 for dogs, and $60 for puppies. All animals are vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. Dogs have had a behavioral assessment.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD)
in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon – 4 pm.

As the month of June wrapped up, the shelter reported a milestone that was not a goal…more cats came in last month than ever before in one 30-day period. The shelter encourages anyone seeking a sweet companion or a volunteering opportunity to contact the shelter soon!
