Trails of Newport Challenge Hikes

Join the park naturalist on this weekly hike. We’ll log hours and miles for 13 weeks. When we are done, we’ll have hiked every trail in Newport State Park. Starting with the shortest loop and ending with the longest loop. Hiking Sand Cove/Duck Bay Trail, 2-mile loop. Meet at Lot 3. Free. Park vehicle sticker required.

Solstice Escarpment Hike

Meet the park naturalist at the ski hill parking lot for this mile-long hike into some lesser-known regions of the park, including views of the Niagara Escarpment and Sawyer Harbor. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and pants are recommended. Free. State park vehicle sticker required.

3-4:30pm. Drop by the Nature Center to greet the camp dogs, build a debris hut, or play a game of camouflage. The naturalist will lead these activities as well as assist with the Wisconsin Explorer Activity Book. 7-8pm. Community Campfire. The park naturalist will supply the stories, songs, and fire; you supply the s’mores! All-ages friendly event. Meet at the shoreline area across from the campground shelter and playground. Hike to Whitefish Bay Creek

Hike some of the lesser-known trails of Whitefish Dunes, from the Red Pine Trail down to Whitefish Bay Creek. Learn about wildflowers, trees, native lore, and history on this 1.25-mile round-trip hike. Meet at the Red Pine parking lot near the intersection of Clark Lake Road and South Lake Road on the west side of the park. Free. State park vehicle sticker required.
