The frigid temperatures of our Door County winters take their toll on exposed flesh, and cats are especially at risk. In February 2012, Nickles came into the Humane Society as a stray from Kangaroo Beach Road in Baileys Harbor. This longhaired, orange and white tabby boy suffered frostbite on his ears, losing most of the right ear as a result. Now he requires a solution to be applied daily to keep the area clean and prevent ear infections.

Nickles is a gentle soul, placid and content to be an observer from a warm spot on a perch. He is between seven and nine years old, needing an adopter who understands his special needs.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD – the road to Potawatomi State Park) in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon – 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit dooranimals.com.

The Snowmobile Poker Run on Feb. 8 will raise funds to care for special needs animals at the shelter. Call the Door County Humane Society at 920.746.1111 to join the fun or for more information.
