Here’s some good news regarding the environment. Compared to average annual carbon dioxide increases of 2.9 percent since the year 2000, in 2012 emissions of the gas increased only 1.1 percent. Chinese emissions had been increasing by about 10 percent a year for a decade, their emissions increased by only three percent in 2012. U.S. emissions fell by four percent in 2012 and the European Union by 1.6 percent. Let’s wait to celebrate. (Oct. 31 report by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency; Nature, Nov. 7, 2013)
