A Night of Opera, A Morning of Bach

Over the past decade, Shepherd of the Bay has had a special relationship with the Chicago operatic community. Members of that community have given of their time and talents in both performance and worship. Three members of the Chicago Lyric Opera will sing at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church on Memorial Day Weekend, May 23 and May 24.

On Saturday, May 23 at 7 pm, mezzo-soprano Pamela Williams and tenor John Concepcion will return to Door County to sing songs of Edvard Grieg, Vaughan Williams and Mozart. Soprano Kimberly McCord will make her Door County debut at this event, singing Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915.” The visiting artists will combine their voices in a variety of operatic selections, offering the Door County audience a smaller version of their world in grand opera. Guest violist, Lolly Lebovic will join the singers and accompanist Judy Jackson in a delightful evening of music.

Then on Sunday, May 24 at 8:30 am the Sunday morning service will feature Bach’s Cantata BWV 44. While seldom performed in services anymore, Bach’s cantatas were written to enhance the religious themes of the day.

Everyone is invited free of charge to come and experience the fusion of spirit and art. For more information call 920.854.2988 or visit http://www.shepherdofthebay.org.
