An Endless Housewarming

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County, Virge Temme Architecture, and Ahnapee Construction invite the public to tour Door County’s latest LEED-registered home from 10 am to 2 pm on Dec. 20 at 120 Alabama St., Sturgeon Bay. This is the second in a four-part series of educational open houses, to illustrate environmentally responsible, energy-efficient home design.

Come learn about the benefits of double-wall construction, cellulose insulation and efficient heating and plumbing design, aimed at significantly reducing energy bills in new homes. Subsequent open houses will be educational sessions on finishes, site conservation, the home’s solar electric system, and the technology of Tesla charging stations for all-electric cars.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is a system developed by the United States Green Building Council to assist in the design, construction and testing of some of the most energy-efficient and environmentally sound buildings in the world. LEED-for-Homes has four tiers of ratings. This home is expected to earn a LEED-Platinum rating, which is the highest level of accomplishment.

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is a powerful voice that educates and inspires action to meet the urgent challenges of global climate change. Consider a freewill donation during this open house to help fund the CCC’s ongoing efforts in climate change education for our community.
