At the Crossroads

To celebrate the “Year of the Escarpment,” the Crossroads at Big Creek has replicated the Niagara Escarpment in their Learning Center. With the help of Meissner Landscaping, Inc and muralist Patty Clark, the center has not only expanded accessibility, but become a visual aid of the impressive Door County feature.

Fortunately, the renovations have not affected the organization’s many education offerings. On Friday, Oct. 29 at 2 pm, the Crossroads will host a cross-generational class entitled “Owls.” A pair including one adult and one youth (age 7 – 13) will learn about owls through video, games, and activities during this program. Pre-registration is required.

A similar class, entitled “Monsters in the Sky” will take place Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4 pm at the Stonecipher Astronomy Center. Through this program, an adult and child pair will learn about the mythology of constellations from presenter Mike Lynch, author of Wisconsin STARWATCH.

That evening at 7 pm, Lynch will present “Myths of the Autumn Constellations” to the general public. The free program will feature stories about constellations and a chance to look through a Dobsonian telescope.

On Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 pm, the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society with host their November Meeting at the Stonecipher Astronomy Center. The meeting will feature a lecture by Ray Stonecipher entitled “Dark Matter and Dark Energy.”

Crossroads is located at 2041 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay. For more information call 920.746.5895 or visit http://www.crossroadsatbigcreek.org.
