Brain Drain Author To Speak in Door County

Patrick Carr, the author of a book recently highlighted in a series of articles in the Peninsula Pulse about the loss of young people in Door County, will be the keynote speaker at the Door County Economic Development Corporation’s (DCEDC) annual meeting April 28.

“Professor Carr’s book addresses issues of critical importance to Door County,” said DCEDC Executive Director Bill Chaudoir. “Keeping young people in our community is vital if we are going to maintain and continue to grow our local economy. We are extremely fortunate to have a speaker of his caliber come to Door County.”

Carr’s presentation, “Confronting Rural Brain Drain: Strategies and Best Practices,” evolved from his book Hollowing Out the Middle: The Rural Brain Drain and What it Means for America. Carr was recently interviewed in the Pulse. Links to articles from the Brain Drain series are below.

In addition to the keynote address by Professor Carr, the annual investors meeting will include the presentation of the Door County Industry of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The Industry of the Year Award recognizes a construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year. The Entrepreneur of the Year Award celebrates those individuals who have taken the initiative to start and grow a successful small business in Door County.
