Last week’s trivia question:

Last week’s “Tips From the Pro” by Randy Meyer dealt with some rules and etiquette to follow while on the golf course. Before you pull your clubs out of the trunk it’s important to know this equipment rule and the answer to last week’s question…. In competition, how many clubs is a golfer allowed to carry?

Answer: 14

The Rules of Golf allow you to carry a maximum of 14 clubs in your bag. That doesn’t mean you have to carry 14 though, you may carry fewer if you wish.

Some may recall the 2001 British Open, in which 43-year-old Ian Woosnam was leading the tournament on the final day only to learn from his caddie that he had 15 clubs in his bag. “You’re going to go ballistic,” announced his caddie, who mistakenly allowed the extra club, and sure enough Woosnam did. He threw the offending driver off the tee box, and proceeded to bogey the next two of three holes. Woosnam ended up losing the tournament by four strokes.
