Caring for Creation

Dr. Peter Bakken, public policy coordinator at the Wisconsin Council of Churches and coordinator of Wisconsin Interfaith Power and Light, will speak at the Jan. 7th meeting of the Climate Change Coalition of Door County about the topic, “Caring for Creation: What people of faith can do – and are doing – about climate change.”

As the scientific case for taking action grows stronger and more irrefutable, people of faith are recognizing climate change as a fundamental moral and spiritual issue and getting involved. Wisconsin Interfaith Power and Light seeks to equip and inspire people of all faiths to address climate change in concrete ways. It advocates for sustainability with public officials and others, holds statewide training programs, offers tools to help congregations and individuals use energy more efficiently, and advances other initiatives to meet the challenge of climate change.

Peter Bakken holds a PhD in theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He served on the task force that produced the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America social statement, “Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope and Justice.”

The talk will begin at 7 pm at Bjِrklunden in Baileys Harbor, and is free and open to the public.
