Chalk the Door

In keeping with the Door County Libraries’ summer theme of Ocean of Possibilities, Chalk the Door participants were encouraged to draw and decorate oceanic creatures, whether real or imaginary. To accompany the free chalk drawing, Sturgeon Bay Sunrise Elementary School art teacher Megan Jain hosted sessions at four libraries to discuss chalk art and mosaics.

Chalk art, she said, is often misunderstood as being only for children, but, as it is for German 3D artist Edgar Mueller (widewalls.ch/artists/edgar-mueller), it can be a great way for anyone to create temporary street art. Jain said it helps to decorate the Door and encourages others to try art.

“Having community art, especially in a place where other people can see it,” she said, “is really important.”
