DCHS Hosts Early Settlers Program Aug 19

The Door County Historical Society will host its yesteryear programming with “A Visit With the Warrens, Early Door County Settlers,” presented by Nan & Jerry Krause, on Aug. 19 at 2 pm. The program takes place in the Vignes School at the Heritage Village at 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay.

The program highlights the lives of Sarah and Julius Warren and their family, early settlers in Clay Banks Township of Door County. The stories will be a first person re-enactment skit format, rich with the life happenings of these early settlers. Their experiences reflect some of the major historical events of the times such as the Civil War and Peshtigo Fire. Guests will relate to their joys and sorrows and appreciate their contributions to their community.

The Krauses became interested in the Warren family as they helped with the Heritage Village Committee in 2005. They were part of a Door County Historical Society research team to find out more about the Warren family when the descendants donated the Warren family log cabin. The Krauses helped with preparing the cabin for display, obtaining the family’s written history, and accessing the donated furnishings for the home. Nan worked with family members to trace an accurate Warren family lineage. Soon opportunities arose to develop monologues and two-person skits to better share the interesting Warren stories with the public.

This program does not have an admission fee, but an offering will be taken to support the restoration and accessibility of the Vignes School. The Door County Historical Society’s next program in the series, “The Islands of Door County,” is Aug. 26, 10 am – 3 pm at Heritage Village at Big Creek.
