Death’s Door Dance Fest Returns July 26-28

Returning alumni and notable newcomers will perform in the third-annual Death’s Door Dance Festival (DDDF) July 26-28.

The festival kicks off with a pop-up performance at Hidden Acres Farms, July 26 at 6 pm. The performance will feature a collaboration between photographer Meredith W. Watts and choreographer Simone Ferro, an original work inspired by the spiritual practices of northeastern Brazil.

Hidden Acres is located at 11128 Beach Road in Sister Bay.

Performances will continue the following day, July 27 at 6 pm, at the Sister Bay Performance Pavilion. There, a lineup of choreographers will share a diverse selection of dance styles from classical ballet to flamenco.

The pavilion is located at 2362 Mill Road in Sister Bay.

In case of inclement weather, the performances will be held at the Door Community Auditorium, 3926 state Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, at 7 pm each day.

In addition to these performances, classes and workshops will be held throughout the weekend; DDDF will announce a complete list on April 17.

Choreographers Colleen Thomas and Adriane Fang will lead a workshop titled “honoring intuition/contact improvisation” on July 27, 1:30 pm, at the Sister Bay Village Hall. During the workshop, participants will explore weight, sensation, individuality and collaboration, sensing what stirs their bodies with individual and group partnering. People of all ages and abilities may participate.

The village hall is located at 10693 state Hwy 42 in Sister Bay.

The next day, July 28 at 10:30 am, guests can gather for coffee and conversation. The April Sellers Dance Collective from Minneapolis, Minnesota will guide a community reflection about the evolution of gender in dance and performance.

The event will be held at Björklunden, 7590 Boynton Lane in Baileys Harbor. DDDF is seeking business sponsors and in-kind and cash donations to support their event. Visit deathsdoordancefestival.com for more information, or studiokflamenco.com/dddf to make a tax-deductible donation.
